Chandigarh: Days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released an obscene video clip allegedly featuring Punjab Minister Balkar Singh belonging to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the politics appear to have escalated in Punjab drawing a whole lot of criticism for the party ever since the video surfaced. Amid the uproar over the video, Republic Media Network Confronted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and INDI Alliance candidate from Chandigarh Manish Tewari over the issue. While Kejriwal chose to ignore the question asked by Republic TV, the confrontational sequence with Manish Tewari ended on an aggressive note as the Congress leader went ahead and by pushing the Republic crew.
It was in Chandigarh, when Republic Media Network confronted both the leaders, while they were campaigning in the constituency ahead of the polling, which is slated to take place in the last leg of the elections on June 1. Arvind Kejriwal chose to keep mum, when he was questioned on the viral video purportedly capturing Punjab MLA Balkar Singh engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with a woman seeking employment. Moreover, when he was confronted repeatedly, his security pushed away the crew.
Tewari supporters heckled Republic TV crew
He was asked why he hadn’t sacked the minister even after he was allegedly involved in a sexual activity during a video call with a woman seeking employment. Kejriwal was also confronted on whether he was trying to protect Balkar Singh, who is the Kartarpur MLA.
Senior Congress leader Manish Tewari, who got angry over the question, when asked regarding the INDI Alliance’s compulsion in protecting the AAP MLA, shoved the Republic mike and pushed the crew thrice. Not only this, the Republic crew was also heckled by Tewari’s supporters during the incident.
Meanwhile, the AAP party has been alleging that the Opposition has stooped down too low to harm the prospects of AAP.
Earlier, when Republic TV tracked AAP Minister Balkar Singh involved in the flashgate incident and grilled him over his alleged involvement, his supporters heckled the crew and shouted slogans to suppress the question. Singh, later refused to comment on the same.
The National Commission for Women (NCW), on the other hand, has expressed grave concern over the allegations made against Punjab Minister Balkar Singh and sought a prompt and impartial probe into the matter. The allegations were brought to light by BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, who accused Balkar Singh, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), of engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct.
