DRI seizes cocaine worth ₹50 crore at Hyderabad airport

The seized Cocaine weighing around 5 kg was found concealed in the false base of ladies' handbags and suitcase. One Indian national has been arrested.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Friday, September 1 succeeded in making a major crackdown on smuggling of drugs by nabbing an Indian national at the Hyderabad airport and making a seizure of drugs worth around Rs 50 crores. The recovered Cocaine weighing around 5 kg was found concealed in the false base of ladies handbags and suitcase. Further legal action is being taken into the matter.

An official of the DRI stated that the action was based on a specific intelligence input. The officials of the DRI had received an input about the accused involved in the smuggling of drugs. Based on the input, the officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad intercepted the man for scrutiny, on September 1st. 

Accused arrived from Laos was on his way to Delhi

It was revealed that the Indian passenger had arrived from Laos to Hyderabad via Singapore. He stated that from Hyderabad, he was to leave for Delhi. 

During the checking of his baggage, the contraband, wrapped in brown tape, was found cleverly concealed in the false bottom of a check-in suitcase and in false bottoms of four handbags carried in the check-in baggage.

According to the official, a total of 5 kg Cocaine, valued at around Rs 50 crores in the international market was recovered. The recovered Cocaine was seized and the passenger was placed under arrest. He has been further remanded to judicial custody. Further investigations to trace the other members of this syndicate are underway.
