Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: The Delhi-Surat stretch of India's longest expressway connecting Delhi with Mumbai is expected to be fully operational by March, 2024.

Two other stretches spanning over 300 km are also nearing completion, according to reports. Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Anurag Jain said on Friday that the ministry is expecting to commence operations of Delhi-Surat segment by March.

He further added that the 94-kilometre stretch connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai would be completed by 2025. Overall, 67 per cent work, or 920 km of the 1,386 km Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has been completed so far.

The final 205 km stretch between Lalsot and Jhalawar is almost complete. Within the section from Lalsot to the Rajasthan-Madhya Pradesh border, there are nine packages, with two of them fully constructed, covering a total distance of 79 km.

This segment comprises two crucial portions, with the last 35 kilometers experiencing some slowdown. Of these two segments, a 26-kilometer stretch has 75% of the work completed, while an 8-kilometer stretch has reached 45% completion.

Nineteen packages, covering a total of 563 kilometers, have reached 100% completion along the entire length of the expressway. This includes the two sections already accessible to the public since 2023: the 247-kilometer route between Sohna and Lalsot and the 245-kilometer stretch between Jhalawar and the Madhya Pradesh-Gujarat border.

Gujarat holds the largest portion of the 1,386-km Delhi-Mumbai expressway among the states, spanning 432 km, with 186 miles of work already finished. Rajasthan follows closely with 374 km, of which 350 km have been completed.

Within the nine-kilometer project, 3.5 kilometers fall within Delhi. The project is anticipated to be completed by the middle of 2025, making it India's longest expressway.

Upon completion, the Delhi-Mumbai expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Mumbai by half, from approximately 24 hours to 12 hours, and the distance will be shortened by 130 miles, according to reports.
