Delhi Police Issues High Alert After Suspected Sabotage Attempt on Kalindi Express
Railway and Metro staff asked to enhance security after near derailment incident in Kanpur.
New Delhi: The Delhi Police have placed railway staff on high alert following a suspected sabotage attempt to derail the Kalindi Express in Kanpur two days ago, officials revealed on Wednesday.
A major train accident was averted on Monday when an alert loco pilot stopped the Bhiwani-Prayagraj Kalindi Express after the train struck an LPG cylinder placed on the tracks.
A bottle of petrol and matchboxes were also found at the scene, raising concerns of deliberate sabotage. The Kanpur Police have since lodged an FIR in the matter, and the investigation is ongoing. Police said they have also asked Delhi Metro staff to stay alert and increase checking.
Metro and Railway Security Stepped Up
In response to the incident, Delhi Police have also urged the Delhi Metro staff to remain vigilant and tighten security checks. “The entire Railways unit has been put on high alert following the Kanpur incident,” said a senior Delhi Police officer. Foot and motorcycle patrols have been intensified, and anti-sabotage measures, including bomb disposal teams and dog squads, are being deployed along railway tracks.
Railway staff across adjoining areas have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance around stations and tracks. A joint patrol team, including the Railway Protection Force (RPF), is working with other security agencies to ensure safety.
As the investigation unfolds, over two dozen individuals, including three members of a family, have been detained for questioning. A multi-agency probe involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad is underway, with officials considering possible terror links.
