New Delhi: Amid reports of Delhi Police probing a possible occult angle into the deaths of four members of a family in Vasant Kunj, officials have denied such theories, according to media reports. Earlier news agency PTI had that the police will study the infamous 2018 Burari suicide case to probe any "occult practice" angle in the Vasant Kunj deaths.

For the unversed, five members of a family were found dead inside their rented flat in Delhi's Vasant Kunj area on Friday afternoon. Initial investigations suggest that the family members may have ended their lives in a suicide pact. The incident came to light at around 10am on September 27 when Nitin Chauhan, the owner of the building, made a PCR call to report a foul smell coming from the third-floor apartment. Chauhan stated that despite multiple knocks, the tenants were not responding. Upon arrival, the police, with the assistance of the fire brigade, broke open the door and discovered the bodies of man and his 4 daughters.

The deceased include Heera Lal Sharma, a 55-year-old carpenter, and his four daughters — Neetu (26), Nikki (24), Neeru (23), and Nidhi (20). All of the girls were specially-abled.

Sulphas Packets Found Near Bodies

Inside the room, the police discovered the bodies of the father and his four daughters. Open packets of sulphas, a toxic chemical used in pesticides, were found near the bodies, raising suspicions of poisoning. Along with this, tetra packs of juice and a bottle of water were recovered from the dustbin, suggesting the possibility that these items were consumed before the tragedy.

Delhi Police said," In the initial investigation, the case definitely seems to be of suicide, but how did these five take such a step together?"

The unsettling detail of a red sacred thread tied around the stomachs and necks of all four daughters has only deepened the mystery. The daughters were found lying on a double bed in one room, while their father’s body was discovered in an adjacent room. White foam was seen coming out of their mouths, a common indicator of poisoning.

The details that emerged during probe drew an uncanny resemblance to the 2018 Burari suicide case, where 11 members of a family, blindfolded and mouth-taped, were found dead at their residence.
