Delhi Chokes as Air Quality Worsens Further After Diwali, AQI Above 300

New Delhi: Delhi’s air quality plummeted overnight, reaching alarming levels on Monday morning just few days after Diwali , with areas like Anand Vihar recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 433, marking the worst pollution levels of the season so far. According to data from Central Pollution Control Board, the city’s overall AQI stood above 300 in ‘Very Poor’ category.
The air pollution in Delhi is reaching dangerous heights, with PM2.5 concentrations now 59 times higher than safe levels recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), as reported by the IQAir website. Such high pollution levels pose serious health risks, including potential lung and brain damage, especially for those exposed to it continuously.
Here’s a breakdown of AQI levels in various areas of Delhi as of 7 a.m.:
- Anand Vihar: 433 (severe)
- Alipur: 385 (very poor)
- Ashok Vihar: 409 (severe)
- Bawana: 408 (severe)
- IGI Airport: 369 (very poor)
- Jahangirpuri: 413 (severe)
- Mundka: 400 (severe)
- Rohini: 409 (severe)
- Moti Bagh: 400 (severe)
- Punjabi Bagh: 400 (severe)
- Patparganj: 402 (severe)
- RK Puram: 392 (very poor)
