New Delhi: A splash of rain in parts of Delhi and the adjoining NCR regions including Noida on Monday brought the much-needed respite for the residents from the ongoing heat-wave conditions Delhiites woke up to a humid Monday morning with the minimum temperature settling at 31.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average. 

The Indian Meteorological Department had predicted light showers for the Delhi-NCR region on June 24 and 25 and the weather is predicted to remain pleasant till June 29. For Monday, the weather department had predicted a generally cloudy sky and thunderstorm with very light rain. 

Parts of Delhi along with Noida received light to moderate rain on Sunday evening as well. The humidity was 63 per cent at 5.30 pm. The weather department had said that the monsoon is expected to hit Delhi-NCR around June 30.

Delhi along with major districts of the national capital region has been reeling under intense heatwave conditions since April, with water crisis adding to the woes. The extreme heatwave had pushed Delhi's power demand. According to the State Load Dispatch Centre data, at 3:22 PM on June 18, Delhi's peak power demand clocked 8,647 MW. It is the highest ever in the history of the national capital.

Further, the IMD has issued red alert for 9 states in the southern India. The weather department has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Goa, parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka during the next four days. Heavy rainfall is expected in pockets of Gujarat on June 23 and 24, in the ghat regions of Tamil Nadu on June 23, and in Kerala and Mahe from June 23 to June 25.
