Several Injured as Thousands Throng Deviramma Hill Temple in Karnataka's Chikkamagaluru on Diwali

Chikkamagaluru: Several devotees sustained injuries while climbing Deviramma Hill Temple in Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka on Thursday evening. Notably, thousands of devotees thronged the hill in Mallenahalli to celevraete a festival. The devotees sustained injuries as their slipped while climbing the 3,000-foot hill.
The incident is being attributed to the incessant rains for the past two days in the area. According to sources, the devotees faced several difficulties during their journey.
It is learnt that a 30-year-old woman from Bengaluru, identified as Divya, suffered a fractured leg while a 25-year-old man, identified as Sindhu fell unconscious while climbing the hill. Meanwhile, native of Tarikere, identified as Venu, sustained head injuries after slipping down the hill. Soon after, police were alerted who brought the distressed devotees safely down the hill, on stretchers. A team of firefighters also stepped in to expedite the rescue operation. All the injured were rushed to hospital.
The Deviramma temple attracts devotees only once annually during Deepavali for an annual ritual held on Naraka Chaturdashi.
