From No Loud Music to Alcohol Ban, Hyderabad Police Issues Guidelines for Ganesh Pandals
The city police have released detailed guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe celebration.
Hyderabad: As Hyderabad gears up for Ganesh Chaturthi , the police have imposed a ban on speakers after 10PM, as well as prohibitions on alcohol and any kind of provocative speeches in the pandals.
The city police have released detailed guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe celebration. The new rules cover several aspects of the festival, from noise control to crowd management, and aim to balance festive enjoyment with public order and safety.
No Loudspeakers after 10PM in Pandals
One of the key measures is a ban on loud music and speakers after 10 p.m. During the festival, pandals will be allowed to use only two box-type speakers, and both organizers and equipment suppliers must obtain clearance from the police. This restriction aligns with the Supreme Court’s guidelines, which limit loudspeaker use between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
In addition to noise control, the guidelines prohibit lotteries, alcohol consumption, and political or provocative speeches within the pandals. Organizers must ensure that noise levels remain within acceptable limits and manage the crowd effectively. To help with this, volunteers will be required to wear identity badges and assist with queue management, worship activities, and overall safety at Ganesh Mandaps.
Police Guidelines on ‘ Ganesh Chaturthi ’ Celebrations
The police also have specific requirements for the physical setup of pandals. Permanent structures for idol installations are not allowed, and idols cannot be placed on roads or pavements. Instead, temporary pandals must be sturdy, with roofs covered in tarpaulin and safe electrical setups. Continuous surveillance through CC cameras will be mandated to ensure compliance with the guidelines.
For environmental protection, the use of Plaster of Paris (POP) idols is banned for immersion in natural water bodies like Hussain Sagar. Immersions should instead take place in designated baby ponds. Organizers are also responsible for ensuring that volunteers are present at all times and that any illegal activities, including gambling and alcohol consumption, are strictly monitored and prevented.
