New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a special interaction with the Indian contingent heading for the Paris Olympics and boosted their morale during the 30-minute-long interaction.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that India's Olympic-bound contingent will make the country proud and live up to the aspirations of 140 crore people.

He also suggested the athletes to go with a learning attitude and observe the space where athletes from worldwide are showcasing their talent.

“We are going to play, we are going for our best performance. The Olympics is also a very big field for learning... There are many opportunities to learn for the one who works with a learning attitude,” the PM said.

"People from countries like ours go there, they face many difficulties and inconveniences, but in their hearts, they have their country and their tricolour flag. I am sure that this time too you will bring glory to India in the sports field," PM Modi added.

‘Bring Glory to India’

PM Modi exuded confidence about Indian athletes giving their best performance and bringing glory to the country in the sports field.

“You are in the mood to go (for the Olympics) and win and I am in the mood to welcome you when you return after winning. I try to keep meeting the stars of our country associated with the sports world, keep learning new things and keep understanding their efforts,” he said.

For the convenience of the players, PM Modi said that this time Indian government has tried to connect and activate the Indian community in Paris.

“This time also we have tried to do something new for the convenience of the players. We have tried to activate the Indian community there a bit so that they connect more with our players.”

He concluded the interaction by extending good wishes to Indian athletes, especially those participating in the Olympics for the first time.

"I wish you all the best from my side and I will wait for you people...I will try that when the program is held at Red Fort on 15th August, you people should also be present there..."

Paris Olympics 2024

Team India will once again take to the field in the multi-sport extravaganza starting on July 26 and concluding on August 11. India will look to outdo its tally of seven medals from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which included a gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

This year has witnessed Indian sportspersons win some big laurels for the country. India secured its best-ever medal tally in the World Para Athletics Championships in May held in Japan, with 17 medals, including six gold, five silver and six bronze medals.

The 17-year-old chess sensation created history in April as he won the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2024, becoming the youngest-ever challenger to the world title held by Ding Liren after an exciting final round in Toronto.
