Heatwave Impact: Jharkhand Schools To Remain Closed Till June 15 Due to Severe Heat

This decision comes in light of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast, which predicts continued extreme temperatures for the next several days.

Ranchi: As a result of serious heatwave conditions gripping the state, all schools in Jharkhand will remain closed till June 15. The order was issued by the  School Education and Literacy Department of the state in view of India Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast, which predicts continued extreme temperatures for the next several days.

An order issued by the School Education and Literacy Department said in the wake of the "extreme heat and heat wave conditions in the state, all categories of government, non-government, aided/non-aided (including minority) and all private schools operating in the state will remain closed from June 12 to June 15”.

This comes a day after a similar announcement was made in the neighbouring state of Bihar. The Bihar State Education Department has closed all government-run schools in the state will be closed until June 15 due to the prevailing severe heatwave conditions. 

"Given the intense heatwave conditions prevailing in the state and the further warning issued by the IMD, the department has ordered the closure of all government-run schools in the state from June 11 to June 15. Since schools will remain closed, holidays will be declared for teachers as well until June 15," the order of the education department said.

Temperatures in most parts of Jharkhand and Bihar hovered above the 40 degrees Celsius mark on Tuesday, with the mercury settling over 45 degrees Celsius in the Palamu region.
