Mumbai: Heavy rains continued to throw normal life out of gear in Mumbai on Thursday as the rain water flooded the Andheri subway.

Visuals have emerged from the area wherein commuters can be seen wading through knee-deep waters.

Earlier in the day, the subway was also closed for traffic due to severe waterlogging. However, the rain water was pumped out by the BMC and the subway became operational later in the day.

Rain Fury Claims 1 Life

Traffic was paralysed after heavy downpour battered several parts of the city. Mumbai has been seeing heavy rainfall for the past three days. The rain fury also claimed a life on today after a portion of a balcony of a building collapsed.

According to sources, the incident was reported at 11 am inside Rubinissa Manzil near Grant Road railway station when the portion of a balcony collapsed.

According to BMC, 7-8 people were still trapped on the fourth floor while three people sustained injuries.

According to the data from the BMC’s automatic weather station, Dindoshi in North Mumbai received 120 mm rainfall between 4 am and 10 am on Saturday, followed by Mulund (119 mm), Bhandup (111 mm), Magathane (109 mm) and Malad (103.4mm).

On Saturday morning, the total water stock in the seven lakes supplying water to the city surpassed 40 per cent of the total capacity, standing at 40.96 per cent.

This is slightly higher than last year, on the same day, when the lake levels touched 39.61 per cent.
