Hyderabad Police Raids Banjara Hills Pub, 40 Women Among 140 Arrested
According to sources, cases have been registered against 20 individuals, half of them women.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police raided a pub in the upscale Banjara Hills area and arrested 140 people, including 40 women, for allegedly engaging in illegal activities, police said on Sunday.
The raids was carried out at TOS pub on Saturday night following a tip-off. Meanwhile, the venue has been sealed.
According to sources, cases have been registered against 20 individuals, half of them women.
“We conducted a raid on Road No. 3 last night and took 100 men and 40 women into custody for illegal activities at the pub, which we have sealed,” news agency ANI quoted Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Venkat Ramana as saying.
“Cases were filed under various sections, and those booked include the pub’s owners, bouncers, DJ operators, and others,” the ACP added.
The charges under which cases have been registered include Section 420 (cheating), Section 290 (public nuisance), and Section 294 (obscene acts and songs).
In a similar operation, police had cracked down on five well-known pubs across the city last month. That operation was led by VB Kamalasan Reddy, the Excise Enforcement Chief.
Pubs like the Quorum Club in Sherlingampally and Babylon in Jubilee Hills were among those targeted in the previous raids.
