ICF Chennai To Roll Out Vande Bharat Sleeper Coaches Soon, Shares New Video

Chennai: Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai will soon roll out the much awaited Vande Bharat train sleeper version coaches, railways said in a new statement as it shared a new video. Vande Bharat sleeper version is the expansion of Vande Bharat trains portfolio which also includes Vande Bharat chair car and Vande Bharat metro train.  

Speaking on the development, ICF said, "Speaking on the features of Vande Bharat sleeper coaches, General Manager, ICF says, “ So far we have produced chair car racks, but due to the popularity of the train Railway Board asked us to produce the sleeper version. As we already have many orders on hand, so we produce the design and share it with PML to produce the design. For commissioning, it comes to us. After this, the coach will go for outstation trials by RDSO, Lucknow, which will give a certificate for running. The train will be ready by January 15. At the moment, the demand for trains in India is so high that our order books are full and we don't have the capacity to produce more trains for exports. In 3-4 years we can start looking at exports.”

Earlier, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the prototype version of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach at the BEML's facility. The coach will undergo rigorous trials and tests in 10 days before rolling it out on the track for further testing, Vaishnaw told reporters.

The train is expected to be open for passenger operation in the next three months, he added.

The minister also laid the foundation stone for a new Vande Bharat manufacturing facility on the Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) premises.
