Roorkee: In a shocking discovery, students at the Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT ) Roorkee allegedly found rats in the raw food materials and cooking utensils of the Radha-Krishna Bhawan mess. The incident sparked outrage among the students, who staged a protest demanding immediate action.

The students claimed that they found rats in rice sacks, a frying pan, and a cooker used to prepare rice. They alleged that they were being served rat-contaminated food, which could lead to serious health issues.

The students, who shot a video of the rats inside the mess, claimed that they found the rodents inside rice sacks, a frying pan as well as a cooker which is used to prepare rice for the students.

The incident came to light on Thursday afternoon when the students reached the mess to have lunch. Some of them went to have a look at the kitchen from inside, where they saw two live rats roaming inside a frying pan.

The IIT Roorkee administration has initiated an investigation and promised to take corrective action to ensure compliance with hygiene standards. Not only this, a few external experts have been engaged to assess the situation and prevent future incidents.

However, the institute's media in-charge, Sonika Shrivastava, denied allegations of irregularities in the operation of student dining facilities and claimed that the institute follows a strict and transparent process for all contractual agreements.

The incident has raised concerns about the cleanliness and hygiene standards at IIT Roorkee, with students demanding a safe and clean environment for all.
