New Delhi: Marking a new low in the often contentious relationship between the judiciary and legal community, Mehmood Pracha, a senior lawyer has called for a boycott of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud's farewell over PM Modi's participation in the Ganesh pooja held at the CJI's residence.

"Modi saab was leading the aarti (prayer) and he (CJI) was just a participant at his own home. After that event, the message has clearly gone that he was trying to flaunt his dearness and nearness to the RSS and BJP . Have you ever seen or heard of a sitting CJI in his own home with a PM and standing behind him at a private puja", Pracha asked.

Earlier on Monday, CJI Chandrachud had said there was "nothing wrong" with Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's visit to his residence on Ganpati Puja and underscored the need for a "sense of maturity in the political sphere" on such issues.

"The PM visited my residence for Ganpati Puja. There is absolutely nothing wrong as these are continuing meetings between the judiciary and the executive even at social level. We meet at Rashtrapati Bhavan, on Republic Day , etc. We are in conversation with the prime minister and the ministers. This conversation does not involve the cases which we decide but life and society in general," Chandrachud said at a media event.

Earlier in September, a huge controversy erupted after PM Modi participated in the Ganpati Puja at CJI Chandrachud's residence in New Delhi. The video of PM Modi visiting CJI's residence had also surfaced. In the video, CJI Chandrachud and his wife Kalpana Das were seen welcoming PM Modi at their house.

For the unversed, CJI Chandrachud, is set to retire on November 10.
