India News: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde to campaign for BJP in Karnataka

Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde will campaign for the BJP for the May 10 Karnataka assembly elections.

He will be in the state on Monday and participate in two BJP roadshows at Kapu and Udupi town, party sources said.

Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar on Saturday exuded confidence that his party would win at least 141 seats in the May 10 assembly polls and asserted that he would abide by whatever the party decides on the issue of chief ministership.

Voting for the 224 assembly seats in the state will take place on May 10 and the results will be out on May 13.

NEET (UG)-2023 exam was postponed for the candidates who were allotted examination Centres in Manipur and their exam will be held at a later date. MoS Education Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh had written to NTA (National Testing Agency), requesting them to "explore the possibility of rescheduling" the exam, in the wake of the situation in Manipur.

Rouse Avenue court lists the supplementary chargesheet filed against AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia for consideration on May 10 in the Delhi Excise policy case. The court has also asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file the soft copy of the supplementary chargesheet on CD/DVD/Pen drive by May 8.

The Delhi High Court has stayed the notification for elections to Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), observing that a person who is not concerned with the relevant sport activity cannot be nominated as voter on behalf of any state.

The high court was hearing a plea which claimed the electoral college finalised by AKFI consists of as many as 13 ineligible voters.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is in Jammu and is likely to chair a high-level security review meeting at Rajouri Army Headquarters. He will be accompanied by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Top brass of the Indian Army and J&K Police officials are also expected to be a part of the meeting.

On Saturday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Rajouri to take stock of the security situation following the death of 5 jawans in Rajouri's Kandi forest area in an anti-terrorist operation. The Minister who was accompanied by top officers, also met soldiers.

Amid a series of encounters held in different areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reached Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday morning.

Rajnath Singh will visit J&K's Rajouri, where 5 soldiers were killed in an explosion during an encounter with terrorists on Friday.

The defence minister will be accompanied by Army Chief Gen Manoj Pandey and J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

In view of the prevailing situation in Manipur, IndiGo will operate two special additional flights from Imphal to Kolkata on May 6, 2023, adding more capacity for travellers flying out from the state, said IndiGo.

As Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha are travelling to Jammu and Kashmir, it has come to the fore that the current weather condition is not favourable and chopper landings won’t be possible near the operation site. Sources have confirmed that heavy rainfall has started in the Kandi area of Rajouri.

Security has been beefed up across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's arrival. According to sources, the Army, police, and CRPF have been deployed in parts of the valley, and security forces have been deployed on national highways across Kashmir. Also, advanced weapons, including new gadgets, have been provided to forces to monitor situations on national highways and markets.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri area amid the ongoing encounter operations.

The terrorist killed in Baramullah has been identified as Abid Wani, who was a resident of Yarhol Babapora Kulgam. He had connections with the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. Heavy weapons such as 1 AK56, 4 mags of AK, 56 rounds of AK, 1 x 9mm pistol with mag, 3 grenades, and 1 ammunition pouch were recovered from the terrorist killed in Rajouri.

Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha paid tribute to five Army personnel who lost their lives in an explosion during an encounter with terrorists in Rajouri district on Friday (May 4).

The Indian Army, in joint operations with the Assam Rifles and Air Force and with the help of the civil administration, has worked tirelessly in the past two days to restore peace and revive normalcy in violence-hit Manipur, said an official on Friday. The situation in a few districts of Manipur deteriorated after clashes broke out between two communities. Given the tension surrounding the area, security officials were forced to rescue civilians from various violence-hit minority zones, the statement noted.

According to sources, it has come to light that terrorists tried to break the cordon twice. The first attempt was made by the military at around 1:30 am, and again they tried to breach the cordon in the morning at around 5:30 am. As of now, the terrorists are trapped in Kandi and Rajouri.

Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi has reached the Rajouri Operation Site to review the operational situation on the ongoing operations at Kandi Rajouri, where encounters with militants are underway. Lt. Gen. Dwivedi was briefed on all aspects of the operations by ground commanders.
