Indian-origin Doctor Shot Dead in US' Alabama

Dr. Ramesh Babu Peramsetty was founder of the Crimson Network and made significant contributions to healthcare in the U.S. and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Albama (US): An Indian-origin doctor was shot and killed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Friday. The 38-year-old physician, Ramesh Babu Peramsetty, who was well-known for his work in the medical field, died at the scene.

Dr. Peramsetty, originally from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, India, was a prominent figure in the healthcare community. He was a founder and medical director of the Crimson Network, a group of local medical officers. He also practiced medicine in Tuscaloosa and was recognised for his significant contributions to healthcare.

Crimson Care Network Issues Statement on Doctor's Death

The Crimson Care Network, where Dr. Peramsetty was associated, announced his death on Facebook. They requested privacy for his family as they mourn and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.

Further statements will be released in the coming days, and we remain committed to honoring Dr. Peramsetty's enduring legacy. Please be assured that our clinics will maintain uninterrupted operations, ensuring continuous care for our community during this transition," the facebook post read.

Who was Dr. Ramesh Babu, the Renowned Physician?

Dr. Peramsetty graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin and Sri Venkateswara Medical College in 1986. With 38 years of experience, he specialised in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine. He also had ties to the Diploma in Child Health (DCH) Regional Medical Center.

Local reports note that a street in Tuscaloosa was named in his honor due to his impactful work in medicine. He was actively involved in combating the Covid-19 pandemic and received awards for his efforts. Dr. Peramsetty is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters, all of whom are settled in the US.

In addition to his professional achievements, he was also known for his philanthropic efforts. Dr. Peramsetty contributed ₹14 lakh to Menakuru High School in Andhra Pradesh, his alma mater, and supported the construction of a Sai temple in his village back in Andra Pradesh.
