Inside Richie Rich Sultan Of Brunei's Massive Palace 'Istana Nurul Iman' Which Will Host PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on Brunei visit, will hold meeting with its ruler Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at his official residence, Istana Nurul Iman Palace, world's largest residential palace. It's situated near Brunei’s capital Bandar Seri Begawan and holds the Guinness World Records of being the largest palace in the world. This is the first ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei. 

Key features of Istana Nurul Iman Palace in Brunei

  • Being the largest residential palace in the world, there are 1,788 rooms, 257 bathrooms, 44 staircases which are made up of 38 kinds of marble. 
  • The entire property covers around 2,00,000 square meters. 
  • It also features a banquet hall which can accommodate 5,000 guests. 
  • There are five big swimming pools across the lavish property and a mosque that can accommodate 1,500 people.

  • There are 200 air-conditioned stable for polo ponies. 
  • The design of the palace is a mix of Brunei’s Islamic culture and Malay traditions. 
  • The exterior of the palace boasts golden domes with the central one studded with 22-carrot gold. 
  • Palace’s interior has been designed by famous designer Khan Chew, who also designed Dubai’s Burj Al Arab.
  • The interior of the palace to boats blend of gold and marble designs.
