Gonda: In a tragic incident, two people were killed on spot after allegedly being run over by an SUV that was a part of a convoy of Karan Bhushan, the BJP candidate from Kaiserganj and the son of MP Brij Bhushan. The horrific accident was reported when it was passing through Colonelganj in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district. Two people, including an elderly woman and a biker, also sustained injuries in the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Rohan (21) and Shehzad Khan (20), both residents of Nidura villages. According to sources, the speeding vehicle allegedly ran over two-bike borne men when the convoy was heading towards Huzurpur.
The tragedy unfolded when the SUV driver attempted to overtake and hit the bike-borne men who were on their way from Nidura village to Colonelganj market. The SUV not not only stopped after hitting the men but also rammed into an elderly woman who was sitting outside her house after it hit an electric pole.
The injured woman, identified as Sita Devi (60), was admitted to a hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem. The intensity of the crash was such that the front portion of the SUV was badly damaged. However, the vehicle occupants escaped unhurt as the airbags opened during the crash.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter. More details are awaited.
