Private Bus Overturns in Kochi

A man was killed and 13 others injured after a private Kallada group bus overturned at Madavana on the Edappally-Aroor National Highway on 23 June. The deceased, Jijo Sebastian from Wagamon, was riding his bike when the speeding bus reportedly skidded off the road and collided with a traffic signal, trapping him beneath. Despite being rushed to the nearby Lakeshore Hospital, 33-year-old Jijo succumbed to his injuries.

The bus, traveling from Bengaluru to Varkala, had approximately 42 passengers, most of whom sustained minor injuries.

According to a witness, the accident occurred when the driver, noticing the red signal, slammed on the brakes, causing the bus to skid. It first hit the signal and then struck Jijo, who was waiting at the light, before overturning and trapping him underneath.

Fire Force and police conducted the rescue operation.
