In a breakthrough after a speedy probe, the 'kidnapped' six-year-old girl has been found at Asramam in Kollam city of Kerala, said the police adding that the accused deserted the minor and fled the location to evade arrest.

It came hours after a statewide search operation was launched to track the minor girl, who was kidnapped while she was on her way to tuition in Kerala's Kollam on Monday.

Soon after the incident came to the fore, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ordered the police to ensure a flawless and speedy probe into the incident, the CM office said. It added that the police were actively tracking the missing girl and urged people not to spread fake information related to the incident.

10 lakh ransom demand

After the kidnap, the girl's mother received a call, which looked like the child was traced. The call, however, turned out to be a ransom call from the kidnappers, demanding Rs 5 lakh for the safe return of the girl.

Hours later, the mother of the minor received another ransom call, demanding Rs 10 lakh for the return of the minor by Wednesday morning. The kidnappers said the girl was unharmed and warned her parents for not informing the police about the incident.

Suspected to be four in number, including a woman, the kidnappers arrived in a white car and abducted the girl while she was en route to tuition classes with her eight-year-old brother, as per the boy's statement to the police.

When the boy tried to stop the kidnappers, they allegedly pushed him aside and whisked away the girl in the car, an officer from the Pooyappally police station said.
