Ratan Tata Demise: Veteran industrialist Ratan Tata died at a Mumbai hospital late on Wednesday night.  A recipient of Padma Vibhushan, he breathed his last at south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital at 11.30 pm. The chairman emeritus of the Tata group was 86.

Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, in a statement, confirmed the death of Tata, and described him as his "friend, mentor and guide". “It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation,” Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said in a statement subsequently. Chandrasekaran said Tata, a friend, mentor and guide, led by example and had an unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation.

Under Tata’s leadership starting in 1991, the Tata Group expanded its global footprint while always remaining true to its moral compass, he added. Ratan Tata’s dedication to philanthropy and development of society touched the lives of millions and will benefit generations to come, Chandrasekharan stated.

Each of my numerous interactions with him left me inspired and energised and enhanced my respect for the nobility of his character and the fine human values he embodied.  Ratan Tata was a visionary industrialist and a philanthropist, who always strove for society's greater good.  With the demise of Mr Ratan Tata, India has lost one of her most illustrious and kind-hearted sons. In his demise, people of Assam have lost one of its biggest well wishers. Shri Tata, a recipient of Assam's highest civilian award, occupied a special place in the hearts and minds of the people of Assam. He took a giant leap of faith for the welfare of Assam. He was deeply passionate about improving healthcare in the State and with his vision we gave birth to the Assam Cancer Care Foundation.  When Ratan Tata Quashes Rumours Regarding His Health | His Last Instagram Post

On Monday, Tata, in an Instagram post had asserted that there was no cause for concern regarding his health and he was undergoing check-ups for age-related medical conditions.

'Thank you for thinking of me. I am aware of recent rumours circulating regarding my health and want to assure everyone that these claims are unfounded. I am currently undergoing medical check-ups due to my age and related medical conditions. There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits and request that the public and media respect refrain from spreading misinformation." Ratan Tata said in his last Instagram post.

Ratan Tata led the Tata Group from March 1991 to December 2012 as Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the conglomerate.
