Ratan Tata's family has released a heartfelt statement following the industrialist's passing at the age of 86 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, where he had been admitted a couple of days prior. 

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Ratan. We, his brothers, sisters, and family, take solace and comfort in the outpouring of love and respect from all who admired him,” the family expressed. “While he is no longer with us in person, his legacy of humility, generosity, and purpose will continue to inspire future generations.”

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday announced a one-day state mourning to condole the demise of Tata Group’s chairman emeritus and veteran industrialist Ratan Tata. The 86-year-old breathed his last at south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital at 11.30 pm, a top police officer told PTI. He was admitted to the hospital for the past few days.

Veteran industrialist Ratan Tata died at a Mumbai hospital late Wednesday night, a top police official told PTI.The chairman emeritus of the Tata group was 86.Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran confirmed Tata's death in a statement and described him as his "friend, mentor and guide."

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal will visit Doda in Jammu and Kashmir on October 13 instead of October 10 as the Model Code of Conduct is in effect in the Union territory, party MP Sanjay Singh said on Wednesday.

The Aam Aadmi Party national convenor will now visit Doda on Sunday to convey his thanks to the people there for electing party candidate Mehraj Malik from the constituency, Singh said in a post on X.

Malik opened AAP's account in Jammu and Kashmir by defeating the BJP candidate from Doda in the assembly polls, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday said it has attached assets worth more than Rs 21 crore of RJD MLA Kiran Devi, her husband and former legislator Arun Yadav and some linked entities as part of a money laundering investigation.

Forty-six immovable properties located in Agiaon village of Bihar's Bhojpur district and some others located in "posh" areas of Patna as well as bank deposits of Rs 2 crore have been attached after a provisional order was issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The attached properties, worth a total of Rs 21.38 crore, belong to Arun Yadav, Kiran Yadav, Arun Yadav's sons Rajesh Kumar and Dipu Singh and their family-owned company named Kiran Durga Construction Pvt Ltd, the agency said.

Kiran Devi is a sitting MLA of the Lalu Prasad-led Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD), representing the Sandesh constituency in Bhojpur. Arun Yadav represented this seat from 2015 to 2020.

Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, is reported to be in critical condition and receiving intensive care at a Mumbai hospital, according to two sources cited by Reuters.

The 86-year-old industrialist had announced on Monday that he was undergoing routine medical investigations due to age-related health concerns. Since then, there has been growing concern about his well-being. 

Yogesh Verma, the BJP MLA from Lakhimpur, was assaulted during a dispute over elections for the local urban cooperative bank. The altercation occurred while Verma was present at the election office supporting a candidate filing nomination papers.

Video footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and concern among the public. 

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi met Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren here on Wednesday, as the Congress-JMM alliance gets battle-ready for the Assembly polls in the state later this year.

The meeting at Kharge's residence here comes a day after the Congress' shock defeat in the Haryana Assembly polls and talk of hard bargain by INDIA bloc allies with the grand old party in the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

Sources said preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections were discussed at the meeting with both the Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) looking to clinch a seat-sharing deal at the earliest and begin campaigning.

The NC on Tuesday emerged as the single largest party with 42 seats as results of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls were declared. The party is comfortably placed to form the government as its alliance with Congress and CPI(M) got 49 seats in the 95-member house.

"The National Conference legislature party will meet tomorrow at half-past 12 to elect their leader," the party vice president said.

Omar Abdullah said the NC legislature party meeting will be followed by a meeting of the alliance partners to elect the leader of the alliance in the House.

A day after moving in, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi was evicted from her official residence at 6 Flagstaff road, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged on Wednesday.  According to the Delhi Chief Minister's Office, Lt Governor Vinai Saxena ordered Atishi's belongings to be "forcibly removed" from the residence "at the behest of the BJP ."

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to hold a bilateral meeting with the prime minister of Lao PDR and other leaders on the margins of two key summits he is slated to attend in Vientiane on October 10-11, the external affairs ministry said on Wednesday.

Modi will attend the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit in Lao PDR, the current Chair of the 10-nation grouping.

 Karnataka Congress MLA B Nagendra is the "mastermind" behind the multi-crore Valmiki Corporation alleged scam and the funds diverted from this state government entity were also used for a candidate who contested the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year, the ED claimed Wednesday.

The federal agency said it has filed a prosecution complaint or charge sheet in this case sometime ago before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Bengaluru. The court has taken cognisance of the charge sheet, it said.

"B Nagendra, MLA and former Minister for Scheduled Tribal Affairs, has been named as the primary accused and mastermind behind the scam, allegedly orchestrating it with the help of 24 others, including key associates like Satyanarayana Varma, Etakari Satyanarayana, J.G. Padmanabha, Nageshwar Rao, Nekkenti Nagaraj, and Vijay Kumar Gowda," the Enforcement Directorate said in a statement.

The Punjab government on Wednesday appointed senior IAS officer KAP Sinha as the new chief secretary, replacing Anurag Verma, according to an official order.

KAP Sinha is a 1992-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre.

He was earlier holding the charge of special chief secretary, revenue, rehabilitation and disaster management, agriculture and farmers' welfare, horticulture, and soil and water conservation.

Anurag Verma, a 1993 batch IAS officer, will now preside over the same array of portfolios as additional chief secretary.

He had assumed the charge of chief secretary on July 1, 2023. 

With the BJP set to form its government for the third time in Haryana after winning the polls, two Independent MLAs -- Devender Kadyan and Rajesh Joon -- on Wednesday decided to extend support to the BJP government once it is sworn in.

While Joon was a Congress rebel, Kadyan fought as an Independent after the BJP denied him ticket.

Kadyan fought from the Ganaur constituency in Sonipat and defeated his nearest Congress rival Kuldeep Sharma by a margin of 35,209 votes.

Joon won from the Bahadurgarh seat in the Jhajjar district, defeating his nearest BJP rival Dinesh Kaushik.

Three Independents won the polls -- the other being Savitri Jindal, mother of BJP leader Naveen Jindal, from Hisar.

EC dubs the "Haryana results unacceptable" statement of Congress leaders as an undemocratic rejection of people's will. 

 A day after Congress' defeat in the Haryana polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the Congress is an irresponsible party and a factory to "spread hatred" which wants to divide Hindus and pit one community against another.

The BJP has won the Haryana assembly elections and it shows the mood of the country, Modi said, adding that "in Maharashtra we have to get a bigger victory." The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) wants to weaken Maharashtra to gain power, but the ruling Mahayuti will strengthen the state, he said after virtually inaugurating various development projects of more than Rs 7,600 crore in the state.

After a historic hat-trick of BJP in Haryana , Chief Minister Nayyab Singh Saini arrived in Delhi with the party's state President Mohan Lal Badoli to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi .
