Mumbai: The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has announced a ‘Maharashtra Bandh’ on August 24, as a mark of protest against the sexual assault of two nursery students in Thane district.
Schools, colleges and banks will remain shut and train and bus services are expected to be hit; only emergency services will remain available.
Maharashtra Bandh: Date and Timings
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has announced a ‘Maharashtra Bandh’ till 2:00 pm on August 24.
The bandh is being observed across the state after the Thane Sexual Assault Case in which two 3-year-old girls were sexually assaulted by their school sweeper.
Maharashtra Bandh: Schools, Colleges Closed
The government has not made any announcement regarding the closure of schools and colleges in the state.
The educational institutions that usually remain shut on Saturday, will remain closed while others will function as usual.
Parents are expected to keep a check on the messages that may be sent by the schools or college authorities regarding an update on closure.

Banks and financial institutions across the state will also remain closed tomorrow as it is the fourth Saturday of the month, but not because of the Maharashtra Bandh.

Educational institutions, i.e. all schools and colleges that remain closed on Saturday will be shut while others will be open.

Train and bus services will also remain affected as protests will be staged during the Maharashtra Bandh tomorrow.
However, hospitals and chemist shops among other emergency services will remain functional during the bandh.
Why Is There Maharashtra Bandh Tomorrow?
Two nursery school students, aged just three, were sexually assaulted in Maharashtra's Badlapur by their school sweeper. According to the information, both the girls were sexually harassed by a 23-year-old male sweeper in the girls' washroom in the school.
The assault triggered massive protests in Badlapur, Thane and also in the entire state; the accused has been arrested and the principal and two staffers of the school have been suspended by the school authorities.
Demanding strict punishment for the accused, a Maharashtra Bandh has been announced by the protestors.
