New Delhi: There has been a respite from the scorching heat and record-breaking high temperatures for residents of North India as the monsoon in India have arrived. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an alert for heavy rain has been issued in numerous states including Delhi NCR, Punjab, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Assam and at least twelve other states. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Delhi as heavy rainfall is expected in the city today. The weather is expected to remain cloudy for the coming seven days.
The IMD weather forecast also predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in the southern parts of Gujarat; many areas of the state have been experiencing heavy rainfall and schools and colleges have also been closed.
According to the latest IMD Weather Update, heavy rain is also expected in the northern states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Assam has been facing a flood-like situation and over 11 lakh residents are affected across 23 districts.
Flood in Assam has so far claimed 38 lives as 3 people died after drowning in flood waters in the last 24 hours.
