New Delhi: There has been a respite for North Indians from the scorching heat and the record-breaking high temperatures as the monsoon has arrived. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon has covered the entire country earlier than scheduled. The monsoon is on the move across India As the South Westerly winds bring long-awaited rains, heavy showers are lashing Gujarat. Meanwhile, the swollen Brahmaputra is causing floods in its catchment areas, and Mumbai's iconic Marine Drive is experiencing high tides. An orange alert has been issued by the IMD in Delhi, for today and tomorrow. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the national capital on both days.
The IMD on Monday said India could experience above-normal rainfall in July, with heavy rains potentially leading to floods in the western Himalayan states and river basins in the central parts of the country.
"The southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab today. Thus, it covered the entire country on 2nd July 2024, against the normal date of July 8 (six days before the normal date of covering the entire India)," the IMD said in a statement.

According to IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand till July 5.
