Mumbai: The business capital of the country is bracing for the arrival of the southwest monsoon by June 10-11, according to a report by India Meteorological Department (IMD). The timeline goes as usual with the arrival date of the monsoon in Mumbai.
A senior Met department official confirmed that the southwest monsson has already arrived at the Andaman Islands and is expected to touch Kerala by May 31.
The Met department predicted that monsoon will reach Mumbai between June 10 and 11, however the exact date will be confirmed after situation monitoring in Kerala by May 31.
It mentioned that there could be delay by 3-4 days but currently the weather bureau is anticipating monsoon's arrival in Mumbai during the predicted time.
The weather experts have claimed that pre-monsoon rain could be witnessed across Maharashtra by the end of May. In 2023, the arrival of monsoon in Mumbai was delayed by nearly two weeks due to the formation of Cyclone Biparjoy.
The Skymet Weather Services predicted that pre-monsoon rains will hit Mumbai by the end of May with isolated pockets receiving light rain in the first of June. It will later intesify as the southwest monsoon touches the city, it added.
Currently, Mumbai is reeling under heatwave conditions with maximum temperature touching the 35 degree Celsius mark. The IMD predicted that high humidity and heat level will continue for next few days at a minimum.
