Mumbai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow alert' for Monday, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs, with the possibility of very heavy showers in certain isolated areas.

Additionally, extremely heavy rainfall may occur in some spots, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 45 to 55 kmph at times.

So far, Mumbai's rainfall this season has surpassed 1,000mm. As of Sunday morning, the Santacruz weather station reported a total of 1,208mm, while the Colaba observatory recorded 1,163mm. The city has exceeded its average July rainfall within the first two weeks of the month.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also issued warnings of high tides, with predictions of tides reaching 3.17 meters at 5:22 am and 3.52 meters at 5:14 pm.

A significant portion of this rainfall occurred in the past week, with 268mm recorded on July 7-8, marking the second-highest 24-hour rainfall in July in the last 15 years.

In the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, the IMD’s Santacruz and Colaba observatories recorded 142mm and 92mm of rain, respectively. Areas such as Dahisar, Ram Mandir, and Vikhroli recorded over 100mm of rainfall.

With the wet weather expected to continue throughout the week, residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during this period of heavy rain.
