Mumbai: A man allegedly rammed his car into pedestrians while allegedly driving in inebriated state in Bandra on Tuesday. The accused has been arrested and a case has been registered against him under attempt to commit culpable homicide among other charges, as per media reports.
The accused has been identified as Hiten Desai, a senior functionary of a renowned company, according to media reports.
Police said that on Sunday night, Desai drove car at high speed and crashed into a two-wheeler on which a couple was riding. The rider's wife sustained injury in the crash.
A police team reached the spot and while Desai was being taken into custody, there was altercation between him, policemen and angry locals.
When the police tried to stop him, he allegedly overtook the police vehicle and drove ahead. Desai smashed other vehicles and pedestrians in the crowd with his car, a police source said
A case has been registered on the complaint of Amit Rokde, who’s wife sustained injury. .
“The accused was found drunk when his breath analyzer test was done. He did not assault any policemen, but created obstacles while they were performing their duties. No one sustained serious injury,” said a senior police officer at the Khar police station.
