What is deepfake?
Deepfake is an emerging technology in which images and videos can be generated using artificial intelligence and deep learning algorithms. The contect is so realistic that it makes it difficult to spot if it's real or not. This gained widespread attention in India after a deepfake video of actress Rashmika Mandanna went viral.
Earlier, such videos of Kajol, Katrina Kaif had also gone viral. Business tycoon Ratan Tata’s video also emerged where he can be seen giving financial advice. However, later it was found to be fake. Assessing the threat posed by deepfake, the Government of India has also stepped up. The3 government has not only issued directions that all social media platforms need to comply with the IT rules. Further, the government has also made the provision of assigning a special officer to look into the deepfake menace on social media platforms and assist citizens in filing FIRs in such cases.
