Parliament LIVE: AAP MP requests Amit Shah that elections in J&K be conducted with LS elections

Parliament Winter Session Live: The House proceedings for Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha resumed at 2:00 pm after being adjourned earlier in the day.

The second week of the Winter Session begins today after witnessing a few significant businesses in both houses including the expulsion of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Mahua Moitra over the 'cash-for-query' case.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023. Furthermore, the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023, will also be tabled in Rajya Sabha.

Other reports to be presented include the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice by BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP Wilson, and Telugu Desam Party MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar.

Furthermore, BJP MPs Baburam Nishad and Satish Chandra Dubey will present a copy of the Thirty-Third Report of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (2023-2024) on Action Taken by the Government on the Observations/Recommendations contained in its Twenty Seventh Report on the subject – “BIS-Hallmarking and Jewellery” on the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Consumer Affairs).

The list also includes a report showing action taken by the Government on Reports of the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology on the Observations/Recommendations of the Committee contained in their Twenty-sixth Report (Seventeenth Lok Sabha) on 'Suspension of Telecom Services/Internet and its impact' relating to the Ministry of Communications (Department of Telecommunications),to be tabled by BJP MP Sunita Duggal.

BJP stages protest against Congress outside parliament

Earlier, BJP MPs had also protested outside Parliament against 'corruption' by Congress. On Monday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs protested in front of the Gandhi statue on Parliament premises against the corruption by Congress leaders.

As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged its protest, the party's national president JP Nadda told the news agency PTI, “The BJP has always said that corruption and Congress are two sides of the same coin.”

The chief further told reporters, “The Congress is a party steeped in corruption. The ED and the CBI have time and again proved this, but the Congress has questioned the central agencies. Today we want answers from Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, what is their answer to this huge stash of cash that has been found. PM Modi has said that we won't spare the corrupt and we want the Congress party to answer the poor as to whose cash is this. The BJP will not spare the corrupt, all of them will be sent to jail.”

INDIA Bloc MPs walk out of Rajya Sabha

News agency PTI reported that MPs from Trinamool Congress, AAP, Congress, SP, JDU, DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), CPI (M) and other INDIA alliance parties staged a walkout on Monday morning from Rajya Sabha. 
 

Rajya Sabha Vice-Chairpersons panel reconstituted with new members

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced the reconstitution of the panel of Vice-Chairpersons, effective from December 11, 2023. The newly appointed members include:

  • Kanta Kardam
  • Saroj Pandey
  • Jaya Bachchan
  • Priyanka Chaturvedi
  • Dr C M Ramesh
  • Akhilesh Prasad Singh
  • Tiruchi Shiva
  •  Sushil Kumar Gupta.

Two J&K Bills introduced in Rajya Sabha for consideration:

The two Bills — the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 — were tabled by Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha today for consideration and passage. The Bills were passed by the Lok Sabha on December 6.

Govt tackling issues of delimitation, domicile and development in Kashmir: Sudhanshu Trivedi

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi from Uttar Pradesh during the session said that there are three issues with Kashmir, delimitation, domicile and development. Our government has started thinking about these since 2019.

He emphasised the various measures being taken for the benefit of Jammu-Kashmir, including the GI-tagging of saffron.

YSRCP MP V Vijayasai Reddy hails abrogation of Article 370

YSRCP MP V Vijayasai Reddy praised the revocation of Article 370, stating that since its abrogation, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed significant progress. He remarked that Jawaharlal Nehru's decisions regarding J&K had led to substantial repercussions, referring to them as 'significant blunders.'

AAP MP Sanjay Arora requests Home Minister that elections in J&K be conducted with LS elections

AAP MP Sanjay Arora appealed to Home Minister Amit Shah, urging for equal consideration for the Punjabi people, particularly the Sikhs who faced hardships similar to the Hindu Pandits. Additionally, he requested that elections in Jammu and Kashmir be conducted with the Lok Sabha elections.
