Passengers Jump Off Moving Howrah-Amritsar Mail after Miscreants Open Fire Extinguisher, Injured

Twelve passengers were injured after they jump off a slow-moving Howrah-Amritsar Mail in Uttar Pradesh, after miscreants opened a fire extinguisher.

New Delhi: Twelve passengers jumped from a train in panic after seeing fumes from a fire extinguisher coming out of a general coach near Bilpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday. 

All passengers were injured after jumping from the slow-moving train. The incident occurred in a general coach of the Howrah-Amritsar Mail in the morning near Bilpur station, which is part of the Moradabad division, according to an official from Northern Railway.

Fire Rumours in Train Cause Stampede

Officials confirmed that as the fire extinguishers fumes spread through the coach. Rumor spread among passenger of fire, creating scene of panic and stampede in the coach. 

Passengers Jump Off Moving Train

Passengers in panic and fearing fire, pulled the alarm chain to stop the train and many jumped from the moving train, resulting in injuries to twelve passengers.

Six passengers are severely injured and all of them have rushed to a medical college for treatment.

"At first glance, it seems that miscreants or unruly passengers activated the fire extinguisher, creating the false impression of a fire in the general coach of the moving Howrah-Amritsar Mail," said Railway officials.

"The Railway Protection Force has started an investigation to determine the exact cause and identify those responsible," they added.

This incident occurs as Indian Railways has been enhancing its safety and security measures, including coordination with GRP and local police, to protect all passengers, including women.
