New Delhi: The 2024 Lok Sabha elections have concluded, but the political discussions continues. Despite a closer-than-expected outcome, the BJP-led NDA is swiftly moving towards government formation. PM Modi has submitted his resignation, a procedural step before forming the new government.
Why has PM Modi resigned?
Before staking claim to form the government, the old government, in this case the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has to resign. Hence, PM Modi and his ministers have tendered their resignation, which has, in turn, been accepted by President Murmu.
Here's a breakdown of what happens next:
1. Immediate Post-Election Steps: Winning candidates receive certificates from the Election Commission, marking the first formal step towards government formation. These certificates are sent to the Lok Sabha Secretary General, initiating the process.
2. Invitation to Form Government: The President invites the party or coalition with a majority to form the government. In the current scenario, the NDA, led by Narendra Modi, with its allies, has secured a majority.

4. Oath-taking Ceremony: PM Modi is expected to take the oath for a third term on Saturday, 8 June, solidifying his position as the first three-term leader since Jawaharlal Nehru.
