Arvind Kejriwal to Resign as Delhi CM Tomorrow, Says AAP Leader Saurabh Bharadwaj

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal , who announced his decision to step down from the top post two days after walking out of Tihar jail, will submit his resignation on Tuesday. This announcement was made by Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj during a press conference on Monday.
Disclosing reason behind two-day delay in submitting resignation after public announcement, Bharadwaj said that the day Kejriwal announced his resignation was Sunday and Monday is a public holiday on account of Eid. He added that Tuesday is the first working day of th week when the CM will tender resignation.
Saurabh Bharadwaj said, "Tomorrow, Chief Minister ( Arvind Kejriwal ) will submit his resignation and as soon as the resignation is accepted, there will be a meeting of the legislative party, the legislative party will elect a leader. The leader who will be elected will present the claim to the President through the Lieutenant Governor. The MLAs are with us. So obviously that person will be called and will take oath. I think this whole process should be completed within a week..."
Key AAP Meeting Today
Meanwhile, the crucial AAP meeting to decide new face for Delhi Chief Minister's post is likely to be held on Monday. AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia is also set to visit Arvind Kejriwal 's residence on Monday during which discussions on the name of the possible face for next Delhi Chief Minister may take place.
This will be the first meeting between the two leaders following Kejriwal's announcement on Sunday that he will resign from the chief ministerial post. Additionally, Raghav Chadha reached Kejriwal's house ahead of the meet.
This development comes after Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced his plan to step down within two days, the political corridors in the national capital became abuzz as the AAP supremo also called for early elections. CM Kejriwal has vowed to not resume the role until the people of Delhi affirm his honesty. Kejriwal stated that if the public votes for him, it will serve as a certification of his integrity. He also mentioned that he would seek early elections alongside Maharashtra .
Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening following the Supreme Court's grant of bail in a corruption case linked to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scandal.
