New Delhi: After facing massive backlash over her remarks calling for bringing back the three farm laws that were repealed in 2021, Kangana Ranaut , BJP MP from Mandi, on Wednesday withdrew her remarks. In a video address, she said she took her words back.

Expressing regret, Ranaut said she might have disappointed many with her statement on the contentious laws and that now her opinion should reflect party's stand as "she is no more just an artist."

Taking to X, the Mandi MP wrote on Wednesday, “I stand with my party regarding Farmers Law (sic)”. In the video message she said, "When farmers' laws were proposed, several of us had supported them. But with great sensitivity and sympathy, our respected prime minister had withdrawn those laws." "I regret if I left anybody disappointed with my words and opinions. I take my words back," she said while concluding her video message.

The actor-politician had triggered a row while speaking at an event in Mandi district on Tuesday when said the three farm laws faced protests only in some states. "Farmers are a pillar of strength in India's progress. Only in some states, they had objected to farm laws. I appeal with folded hands that farm laws should be brought back in the interest of farmers," she had said.

BJP Distances Itself from Ranaut's Remark

After her remarks on the contentious farm laws, the BJP also distanced itself from her statement. Reaction to Kangana's statement, BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia had clarified that it was her personal opinion and that she was "not authorised to make such a statement on behalf of BJP."

Bhatia said, "On the social media platforms, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut 's statement on the farm bills that was withdrawn by central govt, is going viral. I want to make it clear that this statement is a personal statement of her. Kangana Ranaut is not authorised to make such a statement on behalf of BJP and it doesn't depict BJP's view on the farm bills. We disapprove of this statement."

She had claimed that the country is on the path of progress and restoring the farm laws would ensure better financial stability and growth for farmers, ultimately benefiting the agricultural sector.

Meanwhile, the Congress alleged that Kangana's remarks werean indication that the ruling party was making efforts to bring back the three laws and said that Haryana would give a befitting reply to it.

Ranaut's remark came at a time when political parties are gearing up for Haryana assembly elections, slated on October 5. Notably, Haryana had seen major protest by farmers, especially at Delhi borders, demanding scrapping of the three laws. The massive protest eventually led the PM Modi-led govt withdrawn the farm laws in 2021.
