Pune: A woman was found dead in a water tanker on Thursday in Pune's Phursungi area. The deceased, identified as 25-year-old Kaushalya Mukesh Chavan, lived in Dugad Chawl near JSPM College in Handewadi, said reports.
She had been reported missing earlier, with a missing person report filed at Kondhwa Police Station.
Purushottam Narendra Sasane, the owner of the water tanker and a resident of Dagadi Chawl, runs a water delivery business in the city. After finishing his deliveries on Wednesday, he parked his tanker near his home. The next morning, Sasane filled the tanker at Ramtekdi and began his delivery to a residence near the Phursungi powerhouse. While trying to release the water, he noticed an obstruction and found a saree stuck in the outlet. When he opened the tanker cap, he was shocked to find a woman's body inside.
Sasane informed the police, after which Officers from the Hadapsar police station visited the spot and sent the body to Sassoon Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The police have launched a probe to ascertain if the incident is a case of murder or suicide.
