Pune: Numerous states in India are grappling with diverse meteorological phenomena. While some regions are soaked with heavy rains, others are shivering in bitter cold, creating a weather mosaic across the nation.

A low-pressure zone in the Arabian Sea has ushered in steamy winds from the Bay of Bengal, leading to increased temperatures and the formation of a cloudy environment. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates heavy rainfall in several states, notably Maharashtra, over the next 48 hours.

Skymet Weather reports a complex atmospheric dance, featuring a cyclonic circulation over Haryana, a low-pressure trough from Central Uttar Pradesh to Southwest Madhya Pradesh, and a stoic anticyclone over Odisha. This convergence results in a 'confluence zone' in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, triggering thunderstorms and rain in these regions.

Madhya Pradesh, Central and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and isolated parts of Bihar are already experiencing this meteorological tango. Pune city is poised for partly cloudy skies, with the potential for light rain from Saturday to Tuesday, as predicted by the weather department.

As North India, including Delhi, grapples with bitter cold, dense fog is causing low visibility, impacting railway and air services.

A yellow alert has been issued by the regional meteorological department. Simultaneously, snowfall in the mountains is contributing to the drop in temperatures, with the Meteorological Department forecasting a minimum of 7 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 17 degrees Celsius on Thursday, January 4. Clear skies and light to moderate fog are expected in the morning.
