Dehradun: Highlighting the importance of the Sanskrit language, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday said that the ancient Indian language is not just a medium of expression but has played a key role in holistic development in the evolution of mankind.

CM Dhami Highlights Importance of Sanskrit Language

"It is a matter of pride for the state that Devvani Sanskrit is the second official language of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. The Sanskrit language is not only a medium of expression but also a key to the holistic development of mankind. Human civilizations have evolved from Sanskrit. The Rigveda was written in Sanskrit, and today, this language has expanded to other fields of literature," Uttarakhand CM Dhami said at the inaugural session of the 'Akhil Bharatiya Goshthi' organized by Sanskrit Bharati at Vyas Mandir, Bhupatwala, in Haripurkalan.

During a recent assembly session in Gairsain, the Sanskrit Education Department hosted a Sanskrit conversation camp to encourage ministers, MLAs, and officials to speak the language.

According to a government release, this initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which includes the establishment of Sanskrit schools for classes 1 through 5 in the state. Efforts are also underway to display signs in both Sanskrit and Hindi at bus stations, railway stations, and airports.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the Vedas, Puranas, and other scriptures of Sanatan culture and the Vedic era were originally written in Sanskrit.

He noted that Sanskrit texts cover a wide range of fields, including literature, science, religion, spirituality, astronomy, and surgery.

Dhami highlighted that ancient Indians had extensive knowledge about the almanac, planets, and constellations due to their profound understanding, and he pointed out that Sanskrit has a greater number of vowels and consonants compared to other languages.
