In a major stride for the Indian defense sector, Belgian firm Sky-Hero has established a cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Mumbai under its local subsidiary, Sky-Hero India. This state-of-the-art facility will undertake license-production of two revolutionary unmanned aerial and ground vehicles – the Loki Mk-II unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the Sigyn Mk-I unmanned ground vehicle (UGV).

The Loki Mk-II UAV is a highly agile quadcopter specifically designed to operate effectively in confined indoor spaces, GPS-denied areas, and high-obstacle environments. Remarkably resilient, the UAV can be operated in two unique modes – 'floor' or 'rover style,' and 'turtle' or 'directional flip' mode.

Versatile Loki Mk-II UAV for Challenging Environments

Armed with a low-light camera featuring a built-in infrared (IR) light emitting diode (LED) and a light and sound distraction payload, the Loki Mk-II stands out as a formidable tactical asset. Its sound distraction capability is achieved through a low-lethal explosive generating an astonishing 170 dB, further enhancing its operational effectiveness.

On the other hand, the Sigyn Mk-I is a compact hand-throwable UGV specially designed for seamless operation in indoor environments. Outfitted with wide-angle low-light cameras at the front and rear, along with eight controllable IR LEDs, the UGV boasts excellent situational awareness. Its crashproof design and incorporation of inertial motion sensors allow for diverse drive modes, ensuring optimal performance.

Both the Loki Mk-II and Sigyn Mk-I can be efficiently operated using a console controlled by Sky-Hero's GCS MK-II, utilising analogue signals at a frequency of 500 MHz. Operators are provided with a comprehensive field view displayed on multiple wrist-wearable screens. Impressively, the GCS MK-II has the capacity to control up to four vehicles simultaneously, enhancing operational flexibility.

Highly-Acclaimed Demonstration to Indian Security Forces

In a significant showcase of capability, Sky-Hero presented the Loki Mk-II and Sigyn Mk-I to India's prestigious National Security Guard (NSG), Indian paramilitary forces, and Indian special forces in July 2023. The demonstration garnered enthusiastic responses from industry experts and security professionals alike.

The establishment of the advanced manufacturing facility in Mumbai signifies a significant step in advancing India's defense capabilities. By undertaking license-production of these cutting-edge UAVs and UGVs, Sky-Hero demonstrates its commitment to innovation and collaboration with Indian defense forces. This endeavour is set to elevate India's prowess in unmanned technologies, further solidifying its position as a key player in the global defense industry.

Promise of Enhanced Security and Operational Effectiveness

The licensing of these advanced technologies holds the promise of bolstering India's security and operational effectiveness in various challenging environments. The move towards indigenous production showcases India's commitment to self-reliance in defense technology, fostering a robust and self-sufficient defense ecosystem.

Sky-Hero's establishment of the manufacturing facility and the license-production of Loki Mk-II and Sigyn Mk-I represent a significant stride for India's defense sector. As the nation advances in unmanned technologies, it strengthens its position as a leading player in the global defense landscape.
