New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a keynote address during the G7 Summit's outreach session in Italy's Apulia region on Thursday, highlighting the disproportionate burden faced by Global South countries amidst global uncertainties and tensions. Invited by Italian President Georgia Meloni, PM Modi's address covered key topics including Artificial Intelligence, sustainable energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean. 

PM Shares India’s Success in Leveraging Digital Technology 

While addressing, PM Modi expressed that it was a matter of great satisfaction for him to be attending the Summit after his re-election in the largest democratic exercise in the history of humankind. He expressed that for technology to be successful it had to be underpinned by a human-centric approach. In this context, he shared India’s success in leveraging digital technology for public service delivery.

“Spoke at the G7 Outreach Session on AI and Energy, Africa and Mediterranean. Highlighted a wide range of subjects, notably, the wide scale usage of technology for human progress. The rise of technology in various aspects of human life has also reaffirmed the importance of cyber security. Spoke about how India is leveraging AI for its development journey. It is important that AI remain transparent, secure, accessible and responsible,” said PM Modi. 

“We must make technology creative, not destructive. Only then will we be able to lay foundation of inclusive society. India is striving for a better future through this human-centric approach,” he added.

PM on India’s AI Mission Premised on "AI for All”

Talking of India’s AI Mission premised on "AI for All”, PM Modi emphasised that this technology should be aimed at fostering progress and well-being of all. He underlined that with this broader objective in mind, India was fostering international collaboration as a founding member of Global Partnership for AI.

PM Modi on India’s Energy Transition Pathway 

Prime Minister elaborated on India’s energy transition pathway noting that its approach was based on availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability. He mentioned that India was working towards achieving the target of NET ZERO by 2070.

Alluding to India’s Mission LiFE [Lifestyle for Environment], he called upon the global community to join the tree plantation campaign launched by him on World Environment Day – "Plant4Mother” [ Ek Pedh Maa Ke Naam] and make it a mass movement with personal touch and global responsibility.

“As far as energy is concerned, India’s approach is based on availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability. We are working to fulfil our CoP commitments before the designated time period. India is working to usher in a Green Era, based on the principles of Mission LiFE. Also highlighted the campaign “एक पेड़ माँ के नाम” to make our planet more sustainable,” said PM.

PM’s Call on Prioritising Global South's Concerns 

Furthermore, Prime Minister called for giving priority to the concerns of the Global South, in particular Africa. He recalled that it was a matter of honour for India that AU was admitted as a permanent member of the G20 under its presidency.
