New Delhi:The cost per kg in Mumbai ranges from Rs 80 to Rs 100. In Kasaragod, tomatoes that were once sold for Rs 35 per kg have now increased to Rs 80 per kg, with estimates that they may soon reach Rs 100.

Due to the prolonged heatwave and decreased rainfall in some Telangana districts, tomato prices in Hyderabad are creeping up near Rs 100 per kg. Tomatoes are currently offered for between Rs 80 and Rs 90 per kg.

On June 18, about 9,129 quintals of tomatoes were received by the Kolar Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC), the second-largest tomato market in Asia. This represents a decrease of nearly 2,000 quintals from the previous year. In the southern state of Kerala as well, vegetable prices have risen in recent days. Vendors blamed soaring vegetable costs on the harsh weather and late rains in Tamil Nadu, Kerala's main vegetable supplier.
