Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, a 26-year-old techie lost his life while taking a selfie at Abbi Falls in Shivamogga in Karnataka. The deceased has been identified as Vinod Kumar, a native of Ballari district. 

According to sources, the software engineer was out on a trip with his friends to Abbi Falls to enjoy its scenic beauty during the monsoon season. The tragedy struck when the man lost his balance while clicking selfie near the waterfalls and drowned. Despite efforts by his friends, he couldn't be saved. 

Soon after receiving the complaint from his friends, the Thirthahalli police launched an extensive search and rescue operation. Teams from the fire brigade and local authorities were also roped in to recover Vinod's body. His body was recovered on Monday. His body was transferred to general hospital in Nagara town for post-mortem examination. Later, his mortal remains were transported to Micheri village in Ballari district. 

In a separate incident, a 24-year-old trekker and content creator from Mira Road was killed and his friend sustained severe injuries after they reportedly dived into the Dhabosa waterfall in Jawhar taluka of Palghar district. The waterfall is considered one of the highest near Mumbai. The deceased was identified as Mazz Shaikh, along with two friends identified as Saif and Zohaib who travelled to the waterfall around 135 km away from Mumbai. 

The tragic incident took place when they were shooting a video. Mazz along with his friend Zohaib had jumped into the waterfall, hitting a rock. It proved fatal for Mazz while Zohaib sustained serious head and body injuries. Later, Jawhar police had said that efforts to pull out the body were futile.
