Truth Behind Viral Video Claiming 188-Year-Old Rescued From Bengaluru Cave

New Delhi: A video claiming to show an "188-year-old man" being rescued from a cave near Bengaluru has gone viral on social media. The footage, shared on X by a user named 'Concerned Citizen,' has quickly amassed nearly 30 million views.

"This Indian man has just been found in a cave. It's alleged he's 188 years old. Insane", the man captioned his video.

In the 24-second clip, two men can be seen helping the elderly man walk. He appears to have a hunchback and a white beard, and he uses a walking stick for support.

What's The Truth Behind The Video

The viral video quickly came under scanner as several reports indicated that the individual featured in the footage is 110 years old and a Hindu saint from Madhya Pradesh .

In response to the post, X also issued a disclaimer, stating, "Misinformation! The elderly man is a Hindu Saint named 'Siyaram Baba' who lives in Madhya Pradesh , India. According to reports, he is about 110 years old."

The platform also shared an article from a leading Hindi daily dated July 2, 2024, which revealed the true identity of the man in the video.

According to the report, the elderly man, Siyaram Baba, is 109 years old and is well-known in the region, residing in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh .

Besides, the data verification group D-Intent Data has labelled the viral video as misleading.

Taking to X, D-Intent Data stated, "ANALYSIS: Misleading. FACT: A video of some people helping an elderly individual has been shared, claiming that a 188-year-old Indian man has just been found in a cave. The fact is that these claims are not true. The elderly man is a saint named 'Siyaram Baba,' who lives in Madhya Pradesh , India."
