New Delhi: Singapore's High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong recently noticed an unusual car with a not-so-common number plate.

The diplomat instantly took a picture of the black car plate with 'Haryana 30' written on it in bold block letters.

Curious, Wong posted the picture of the car on X (formerly known as Twitter). He wrote, "Spotted a car with an unusual plate traveling to Delhi. Does anyone know what kind of car number this is?"

Netizens React to Unusual Number Plate

The number plate mentioned only "Haryana 30," which is very unusual and seems incomplete. Social media reacted to it, with some suggesting it could be a vanity plate.

One user wrote, "If it's legal, it's a vanity number which one can buy by paying extra. If it's illegal, some guy's going to get busted sooner or later."

Another user said, “Black board yellow means private agency owned, self driving rental. But such incomplete number plate means illegal and immoral both @MORTHIndia”.

What Does a Black Number Plate Mean?

India's vehicle registration and number plate process is overseen by the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. While most number plates in India follow a standard format, black number plates are unique. They are reserved for rental and commercial vehicles, including self-driven cars, taxis, cabs, and other forms of commercial transport. This helps law enforcement and road users distinguish between private and commercial vehicles.

To get a black number plate, companies must register and adhere to specific regulations. This process involves submitting required documents, such as Form 20, Form 21, Form 22, and a valid insurance policy. The cost of acquiring a black number plate typically ranges from ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000.
