Lucknow: Playing games on phone during work hours proved costly for a government teacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district as he was suspended after the incident came to light. The school teacher was found playing Candy Crush Saga for over an hour during work hours.
This incident came to light when the DM went to the school on a surprise visit. The suspended teacher was identified as Prem Goyal.
On his surprise visit, the DM checked students' copies and found scores of mistakes in many copies, which prompted him to check the teacher's phone.
A feature on Goyal's phone, which tracked hours spent using mobile apps, revealed that he spent nearly two hours on his phone for personal purpose during duty hours.
It was revealed that the teacher played Candy Crush Saga for 1 hour and 17 minutes, spoke on the phone for 26 minutes, and used Facebook for 17 minutes along with other apps such as Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, etc during work hours.
Taking strict action against the teacher, the authority concerned suspended him on ground of “negligence and playing with the future of students”.
A notification, issued in the name of DM, mentioned that the Composite School located in Sharifpur had five teachers and two 'shiksha mitra'. It was found during the inspection that the school where 101 students were enrolled had only 47 students present on its premises, much lower that the required attendance.
The DM apprised the matter to the state education department who then cognizance of the incident and suspended the teacher. A picture with details of the teacher’s screen time throughout the week was also attached in the official notice.
In a separate incident, a school teacher was arrested for allegedly brutally assaulting a class 10 student in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli, police said. The teacher allegedly thrashed the child over his incomplete homework. The assault left the child with multiple injuries, including a broken tooth.
The accused teacher, identified as Mohammed Asif, taught science subjects (Chemistry and Physics) at the school.
After the assault the boy collapsed on floor following which the acsed teacher fled the scene. The injured student was taken to a hospital by the principal. More details awaited.
