UP woman's eyes gouged out during autopsy, 2 docs held

Puja's parents alleged that her in-laws killed her for dowry.

Budaun: In a shocking development that gave jitters to people in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district, a senior official on Tuesday said that a case had been registered against two doctors of a government hospital who performed the post-mortem on the body of a woman whose eyes were found to be removed.

The officials said that the body of 20-year-old Puja was found hanging at her in-law's house in the Rasula village of the district on Sunday. Following this, Puja's parents alleged that her in-laws killed her for dowry. After the post-mortem examination when her body was handed over to her family on Monday, they found that the eyes had been removed.

Manoj Kumar, Budaun District Magistrate said the family claimed that the eyes were removed during the autopsy. Another post-mortem was conducted and a few organs were found missing. He added that a team comprising Additional District Magistrate (Administration) VK Singh, Circle Officer (City) Alok Mishra and Chief Medical Officer Dr Pradeep Varshney formed a committee to investigate the matter and will submit the report within 24 hours.

For now, an FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines police station under relevant sections of the IPC and the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act against the team of doctors that conducted.

Circle Officer Alok Mishra said that strict action will be taken against those found guilty once the investigation report is submitted.
