Uttar Pradesh: Minor Girl Raped By Scrap Dealer During Power Cut in Ghaziabad, Locals Stage Protest

Ghaziabad: A minor girl was allegedly raped at her house in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad by a man, who used to work as a scrap dealer in the neighbourhood. According to the police sources, the accused along with his few associates had entered the victim’s house during the power cut and raped her. He also assaulted her after she attempted to raise an alarm. Meanwhile, after the rape incident, the local residents staged a massive protest demanding stringent action against the accused.

According to the complaint filed by the victim's kin, on Wednesday, at around 6 pm, at least 3-4 people entered the victim’s house from the back door when there was a power outage.

Assistant Police Commissioner Rajneesh Kumar Upadhyay said that the accused, who works as a scrap dealer in the neighbourhood, raped and assaulted the girl. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered and an investigation was initiated, he said.

Meanwhile, irate over the incident, the locals staged a protest on Thursday demanding that the perpetrators of the crime be hanged. During the demonstrations, they barged into a scrap dealer's shop and threw out the goods.

They also allegedly set an e-rickshaw on fire. The police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

The police have arrested the main accused in the rape case. 

Dinesh Kumar P, Additional Commissioner of Ghaziabad, on Thursday said, "Yesterday, a complaint was received. A rape case was registered in connection with that and the accused was arrested. Today family of the victim is saying that more people could be involved in this crime, we are probing that angle as well. Medical of the girl has been done and the main accused has been arrested. Further action will be taken after further investigation."

Further legal action into the matter is being taken.
