Pune: A Pune-based IT engineer Ravi Karnani and his family were attacked by a mob of around 40 people while traveling on Lavale-Nande Road on September 29. The engineer, a resident of Susgaon shared a video of the violent encounter on the social media platform which has now gone viral. In a series of posts, he has also shared photos of the damage to his car and detail about the assault carried out by the mob armed with sticks, rods, and stones.

The viral video shows how the miscreants hid in various locations along the road, then chased Karnani's vehicle before attacking it with sticks, rods, and stones. The car dashcam footage shows the damage inflicted on Karnani's car as the mob, armed with these weapons, chased their vehicle at high speeds in an attempt to force them to stop.

Karnani wrote in his post, "We were attacked!!! There were a total of 40 people in different pockets with iron rods, stones, and sticks who were attacking our car, with 2 bikes and a car filled with local goons chasing us at a speed of 80 km/h!!! The local police took their side, stating they were patrolling."

He also shared pictures of some of the bike-borne assailants who chased their vehicle and attacked it. Karnani wrote, “Assailant 1 and 2 - if any one can find them and share their details it would be really helpful in catching.”

Despite the violent nature of the incident, Karnani claims that local police, who were patrolling nearby, did not intervene and seemed to side with the attackers. The mob allegedly attempted to block Karnani’s car, and when he refused to stop, two motorcyclists vandalized the vehicle, with more assailants joining in soon after.

He added, “We are common people where we haven't even got proper support from our own local law enforcement - Police, who were not even ready to take our FIR, made me and my wife wait tlfrom 6:15PM till 9:20PM with no lady office in the station.”

He suspects the attack was orchestrated by a local gang that often targets vehicles, particularly those without local registration plates. Karnani further alleged that the local police, who were patrolling the area, did not intervene and appeared to support the attackers.

In his police complaint, Karnani explained that he was traveling with his family in his Hyundai car along Lavale-Nande Road when the group attempted to block their vehicle. When he refused to stop, two individuals on a KTM bike attacked the car. More people soon joined in the assault, using sticks, rods, and stones, creating a life-threatening situation for Karnani and his family.

Following the complaint, the Paud Police registered a case against unknown individuals and initiated an investigation. However, Karnani posted another tweet saying, “All the Paud Police station (Pune) did was took standard NCR so that I can claim insurance, from what I found out from my sources these were local village goons(gunda's) who harass most of non MH12 / MH14 no# cars. These people had put my family at risk of major life loss.”
