New Delhi: Following heavy rain in the national capital on Wednesday, a video has surfaced on social media wherein water can be seen leaking from the roof of new Parliament building, which was inaugurated last year.

Taking to X, Congress MP Manickam Tagore posted a video of water dripping from the roof of Parliament building into a bucket which was kept to prevent the water from spilling on the floor.

Sharing the video on X, Tagore wrote, "Paper leakage outside, water leakage inside. The recent water leakage in the Parliament lobby used by the President highlights urgent weather resilience issues in the new building, just a year after completion. Moving Adjournment motion on this issue in Loksabha (sic)."

Later, Tagore submitted an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha seeking formation of a special panel, comprising all party MPs, "to inspect the Parliament building thoroughly following water leaks inside the Parliament lobby yesterday due to heavy rains."

Further, Samajwadi Party supremo and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav also hit out at the Government over water leaks.

Sharing the video on X, Akhilesh wrote, “The old Parliament was better than this new Parliament, where even the old MPs could come and meet. Why not go back to the old Parliament, at least till the time the water dripping program is going on in the Parliament built with billions of rupees. People are asking whether water dripping from every new roof constructed under the BJP government is a part of their well thought out design or…”

The new building, constructed as a part of the Government’s larger Central Vista redevelopment project, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28, 2023. The two Houses shifted to the new premises on September 19, 2023. The building was constructed by Tata Projects Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs 1,200 crore.
